Fluoride Treatment
Know Who Should Get Fluoride Treatment and Why
Fluoride is added to drinking water in order to help prevent cavities and tooth decay. Fluoride is also often found in toothpastes and mouthwashes. Despite brushing with toothpaste, or drinking water that contains fluoride, some people might still need a fluoride treatment. This is something that our dentist in Laguna Hills, CA recommends for certain people who are at a higher risk of getting cavities. Besides preventing tooth decay, a fluoride treatment can also slow it down or prevent it from getting worse.
During a fluoride treatment, a dentist takes a concentrated rinse or gel and applies it to the teeth with a swab or brush. Once the fluoride has been applied, the person who has received the treatment should not eat or drink for at least 30 minutes. This allows the fluoride to become fully absorbed. Some people may need a fluoride treatment every 3 to 6 months or every year.
