Tooth Filling
Understand the Importance of a Tooth Filling
Also known as cavity fillings, tooth fillings are used to restore a tooth that has been damaged by decay. A tooth filling is very important as it will help to restore the function and shape of the decaying tooth, which is caused by a cavity. Placing a tooth filling will help prevent bacteria from entering the tooth, which will help it from becoming decayed even further.
When a cavity gets filled, the dentist first removes the decay and then cleans the affected part of the tooth. There are different kinds of materials that are used for a tooth filling. Some of these materials include gold, composite resins, and porcelain. One of the most popular types of filling is called an amalgam, which is a silver filling. This type of filling is relatively inexpensive. Because it is darker in color, it is usually used for teeth in the back of the mouth.
